Hello friends! This is my last week writing these blogs, but not my last week raising money! This experience has been an eye-opening one, and has helped me understand that people don't really go out of their way for a cause that they don't care about or if they think they will get nothing in return. But on the other hand, many people just do things without caring about recognition and those are the people that are the most generous. The Anonymous donor was so giving and they left in anonymous because they don't care about having their name known, I wish more people were like that. This project so far has raised $103!!!!! Even though I didn't reach my goal, I raised a lot of money and am super grateful to everyone that has helped raise money for these kids!! Remember that this donation site will still be open for a long time, and you can donate whenever. This week is the last one for genius hour and I was thinking I would do a thank you gift to all those who donate this week! So please donate you wont regret it! Help me make these kids happy and warm this winter.

We only have one week left! So so far we raised $103 and I couldn’t be happier with that amount of money. With that being said I’m still going to continue to do this project and continue to get donations for the last week. So many people have helped me out and continue to help me out on a daily basis, by putting the word out and by giving me donations or used coats. This next week I’m going to try to go around more businesses and ask for small last minute donations. I also hope to start writing my conclusion in starting my presentation next week. I know these blog posts haven’t been the most entertaining due to the fact that there’s not much I can write about, but project means a lot to me and I hope you have an interest in it like me. Hopefully, more people in our class and throughout the school will realize that we only have one week left to donate and this is their last chance and hopefully this will push them to do something. If you are reading this from mr. Barker‘s class I encourage you to please donate and this last week and I will be forever grateful and so will the kids, thank you for everyone’s help and who continues to help. Anything is appreciated and you will get great satisfaction in doing good things for others.
give.operationwarm.org/fundraiser/1103163 Last week I was not aware that we had a blog post due. When I️ found out that we did I was in Jamaica and I couldn’t post it from there because of the connection. I️ wasn’t able to contact much and it costed a lot of money to do so. Last week, I️ persuaded my mom to give me five dollars to give to my cause so I’ll have that in soon!
This has been a very stressful week for me. I started Winter Track and have had to work on so many projects. I also had so many tests and quizzes this week. So, I have not been able to do much for this project. I did manage to get one of my moms friends to say they would donate soon, so hopefully she follows through. I also hung up a few more signs, and one more up in my gym. Hopefully this encourages more participation and funding toward this greatly underestimated organization. Operation Warm has not collected nearly enough of their goal as they should have by this point, and it is honestly kind of sad that no one really wants to help out. Imagine not having a coat when it’s freezing outside; I would imagine it not to be really much fun. These kids are also much younger than us, and I know that no one likes to see little kids suffer. Everyone should have a few extra dollars or coats to spare to help out these kids. Anything that you can do would help a ton and everyone wound greatly appreciate it.
This week has been uneventful, and I haven't got any more donations. So, I will continue to get the word out and post to social media. Hopefully by next week, I will have collected another $20 or something. Right now we are at 1/5 of the final goal. We are on track to get coats for a small class! I will be going to a lacrosse tournament this weekend and will try and pick up some donations there. Also, a few people have told me that they would bring in money soon, and I just need to follow up with them. I haven't had much time this week to really be productive and I apologize! I am trying my best and with try and do better next weekend! Thanks everyone!
SOMEONE DONATED $50 ANONYMOUSLY THIS WEEKEND!!! I can't believe it! We have collected $103 towards Operation Warm, and are well on our way to the $500 goal to give coats to an entire classroom! I am over the moon and bewildered that someone actually donated $50. Operation Warm has only raised $1,759.16 out of their $40,000 goal, and my fundraiser page alone has raised 1/17th of the total amount collected for winter 2017/18. I find it truly saddening that the amount they've raised isn't enough yet for the amount of kids they aim to give coats to, I don't want anyone left out in the cold. Literally. We are 1/5 of the way there, and have a good chance of reaching the goal at the end of the project. I am truly grateful and super happy with the people that have donated and helped me in getting this project rolling. This week I will continue to hang up posters and post about the project on social media, and hopefully we'll have more donations rolling in soon. I am going to an event later this week and I can ask some people there for donations. I want to implement an incentive with a business, like for every $2 they'll donate $1 or maybe a raffle ticket thing. The problem is I don't know when I would do a raffle because the last home game is this Friday and I know sports teams do their raffles at games. Hopefully, I will be able to figure something out. I know that the blog posts have been getting more boring, but I haven't been able to do much of anything different lately I hope you understand. Thanks for your support!
This week has been so productive and so many people have donated! I received $27 during class on Wednesday from Casey, Hunter, Garrett and Stuie! Thanks so much guys, you’re really helping these kids and this organization out! I feel like these donations were made in a chain reaction, which is what I need to try and replicate. Once one person donates and is praised and thanked for it, others want to receive the same thanks and to feel good and like they’ve done a good deed. I also met with Mrs. Dunn on Wednesday to talk about strategy and she didn’t really know how to help me. But, she said if I came in with a game plan that she could get Leadership to help out and hang up posters. This would really help me spread the word and get people involved and interested. In the near future I need to come up with an idea or two to pitch to Mrs. Dunn to convince her to help me. I also need to fix my poster. The title is too small and from far away you cannot tell what it says and what the purpose is. So, I am going to make the font much larger and hopefully it will grab more attention. I also need to make more clear, that giving me physical money is perfectly fine and is much appreciated and I will convert it to the website for you. I will be converting the money I received in class on Wednesday sometime this week and hopefully it’ll go through soon. Thanks so much to all who have helped raise money for these wonderful kids! Have a great week!
This week has been a success! Twenty six dollars was raised by two different donors! I think that the posters I put up have helped out with the ease of donation. But, we are still a long way away from our goal. Five hundred is a big number and if I don’t reach it by the end of the project I will continue to try and raise the full amount. I also want to give a big thanks to the anonymous donor and Jase Proctor for their generous contributions. I am going to talk to my parents this week on having them give an amount to this organization, and hopefully they will. I also plan on talking to Mrs. Dunn about advertising the project hopefully during genius hour on Wednesday. I will continue to put the word out there and advertise this great cause, sorry for the short blog!
It almost seems impossible to get people to donate anything. I’ve tried so many different fundraising techniques that have been proven unsuccessful. I have hung up posters, sent emails, called businesses, and had my mom post it on Facebook; with no luck. I have been racking my brain on what else I could possibly do to get people to even give my cause a second look. The only thing I could think of was to talk to Mrs. Dunn and see what she thinks I should do for this, because my mentor is puzzled as well. Operation Warm has barely raised any money at all for this upcoming winter and it makes me sad. They’ve only raised $1000 of their $40,000 goal. I sort of can relate to that because I haven’t raised a dime, and it feels like cheating to ask my parents to donate. I really need people to help me spread the word and retweet my tweets about Operation Warm and their story. If you’re reading this PLEASE donate, I don’t want to end this project with nothing to show for it, and I don’t want to let these kids down. My mentor suggested making a video that appeals to people’s emotions and compels them to donate to great cause. That’s a great idea, but I have no time, resources or a way of doing that any time soon. I was also suggested to make an announcement over the intercom in the morning, but nobody listens to them anyway so it would be a waste of effort. I was told throughout the week that people would bring me money but they never did. I just need one person to start the dominoes falling and then everything else will fall into place. Thanks for your time, and spread the word!
So far this week I have picked out the final design for a poster. I also decided to put a QR code do that it'll be easier for people to access the website. I also figured that if every student in DCHS has a QR reader for smart lunch then they should be able to go to the website fairly easily. Most comments that I've received from my peers have been about them being dirt poor, and that they'd love to donate if they had the means to do so. So, with that being said I might add another part to the project. I was thinking about having people bring in coats as well, because most people have an old coat that just sits around. Also, that would be easier for some people that don't have credit or debit cards. I am now going to ask people to bring in coats to Mr. Barker's room, and hopefully this change will encourage people to be more active in the cause. I think that the reason that people aren't donating at all is because they have to put in credit/debit card info, and they are concerned about the safety of the website. The website is definitely secure, I made sure that it was when I chose this fundraiser. Another thing that I thought was sad was that the organization as a whole has only raised $847 of the $40000 they need to raise by winter. I really hope people start to donate soon, because if not all these kids that count on this organization will be disappointed and cold. I am also hoping to spread the word to the teachers and hopefully they'd tell their classrooms and to their friends and then more money will flow in. Please help me spread the word!
